Ronye Egborge: Promoting Education/ Reducing Poverty In Nigeria Through RETECH FOUNDATION

This week, we present to you, a dynamic, hardworking and visionary Deltan, that has shown a rare commitment to the educational advancement of our youths, via his None Profit Organisation, RETECH Foundation. He is Engr Ronye Egborge.

Engr Ronye Egborge is the Managing Director, RETECH Energy Services, and the Founder/Chairman, RETECH Foundation.

He holds a Masters degree in Business Administration (MBA) with distinction from University of Oxford, MSc in Engineering (Geology)/Diploma from Imperial College, London and a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (BEng) from EUT Minna.

With him as Managing Director, RETECH Engineering Services, the Company deals in Financial Management, Business Development, Operations Management Negotiation, Human Resources Management, Mentorship, Engineering Management and Strategy Development and Implementation.

Engr Ronye Egborge holds a number of professional qualifications (Affiliates). They are: Chartered Manager, Chartered Management Institute, UK; Fellow, Chartered Management Institute, UK; Corporate Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers; Fellow, Institute of Civil Engineers, UK; Professional Reviewer, Institute of Civil Engineers, UK; Supervising Civil Engineer, Institute of Civil Engineers, UK; Nigerian Society of Engineers (COREN); European Federation of Engineering; Chartered Geologist, Geological Society, London; Chartered Civil Engineer, Institute of Civil Engineers, UK; and Fellow Geological Society, London.

As the Founder/Chairman of RETECH Foundation, he disclosed that the Foundation is non- profit, with a mission to reduce poverty, reduce hunger between and within countries through access to, and quality lifelong education. The foundation he said, implements this vision through it’s programmes, including a scholarship, Good Citizenship, Mentorship and Power2scholars programmes.

He said, currently, the Foundation is implementing programmes in 28 states across Nigeria; providing access to portable water for over 40,000 beneficiaries; improving the learning environment for over 50,000 beneficiaries through PYS initiative and has set up 400 book clubs in over 50 public secondary Schools across Nigeria.

On 13 December, 2024, RETECH Foundation made a great impact on education in Delta State, with the installation/ commissioning of Solar Energy, water and ICT facilities in three schools in Warri South Local Government Area. The schools are: Delta Secondary School, Dore Noma College and Essi College 1. Earlier the foundation had installed and commissioned Solar Energy facility in Asaba Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, the state Capital.

Speaking during the commissioning of the projects in Warri, the Chairman, RETECH Foundation, Engr Ronye Egborge said, the essence of the installation of the projects was to assist in the development of education in Delta State, by creating a conducive environment for the students and teachers to learn and teach.

“The Foundation considered it a necessity to provide the facilities, realizing the electricity, water and IT needs of the schools in a challenging Information Technology age for students and teachers,” he said.

In addition, he said, the Foundation felt there was the urgent need for it to contribute its own quota to the educational advancement of the State and the health of the students and teachers.

While appealing to the schools to make good use of the facilities, he said,” We know our intervention will make your dreams of becoming STEM specialists closer to reality”.

He appreciated the staff and everyone who made the Foundation a success, including his Mother, Chief Roseline Egborge, who he said has been a solid rock behind him in the journey of life.

He commended the State’s Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, and the schools for providing the enabling environment for the foundation to intervene in the schools, adding: “We will do more. Yes, we have started, but there is a lot more to be done”. While also commending the principals of the benefitting schools for being proactive, he encouraged the students to focus on their studies and avoid distractions, adding that they should at all times imbibe the attitude of good citizenship and selflessness.

On her part, the State’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu, represented by Mrs. Dora Asini, commended RETECH Foundation and EDP for the laudable projects in the various schools in the State.

Thereafter, in an interview with Engr Egborge, he disclosed that, as part of the initiative to improve literacy and reading comprehension skills in 10,000 public secondary school pupils across Nigeria, RETECH Foundation has established RETECH Foundation Book Clubs in Secondary schools across states in the country. The States where the Book Clubs are located are: Ondo: St Louis Grammar School, Akure; Acquinas College, Akure; Adegbola Memorial Grammar School, Akure; Oyemekun Grammar School, Ondo; and St Peters Unity Secondary School, Ondo.

Others are in Niger State – Maryam Babangida Science Girls, Minna; Government Day Secondary School, Bosso, Minna; Father O’ Counel Science College, Minna; and G.D.S.S Tunga Low-Cost, Minna.

The RETECH Foundation Chairman also disclosed that, as part of efforts of the Foundation to promote education in the country, it has initiated the Hajja Falmata Maibe Scholarship Award, with 40 female Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), who’s parents were killed by Boko Haram already benefitting from it in Borno State. The scholarship was established in 2019 and is currently enrolled with 1,776 female orphans and vulnerable people from the different IDPs and host communities in Borno State.

Added to this, he said, RETECH Foundation presented the 2023 Yinka Bankole Merit Scholarship Awards to two exceptional students at Command Secondary School in Ibadan. Ogunlade Darasimi Samuel and Raimi Radiat were both recognized for their outstanding academic achievements and received recognition from Yinka Bankole, an alumnus of the school who has been awarded three categories of the Merit Scholarship.

Still on the laudable achievements/works of RETECH Foundation Engr Egborge
disclosed that, the Foundation partnered with The Learning Place Center (TLPC) to renovate the only public and freely available Occupational Therapy (OT) Center at the inclusive unit of the Maryland Primary School, Lagos. This , he said was in addition to the Foundation securing funding from the Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Lagos as co-sponsors to support its ‘Paint Your School’ (PYS) Initiative, implemented in 10 public secondary schools in Delta State.

Some of the benefiting school in Delta State are: Zappa Mixed School, Asaba; Okpanam High School, Okpanam; College of Commerce, Warri; Edjeba Model School, Warri; Westend Secondary School, Asaba; Zappa Basic Secondary School, Asaba and Osadenis Secondary School, Asaba.

Engr Egborge expressed deep appreciation to the sponsors/partners of RETECH Foundation Programmes for their valued contributions in helping to successfully complete a wide range of projects. Their support and involvement, he said, have not only enhanced the quality of the Foundation’s work but have also allowed the Foundation to reach new heights of success.
