Securing Lives Amid Turbulent Times

Security of lives and property is a basic need of the citizenry which is required for them to contribute their quota to economic development, thus allowing the government to work assiduously towards their welfare from the proceeds of the economy.

Against this backdrop, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has proven to be a visionary leader, by among other prongs of his MORE Agenda, considering it imperative to ascribe prominence to security of lives and property of the citizens, hence his Peace and Security Agenda.

As a visionary and pragmatic leader, Governor Oborevwori has never hidden his determination to ensure that the security of lives and property of citizens remain sacrosanct.

As part of the practical demonstration and undiluted furtherance of this ability and willingness, the Governor has directed that all hotels, super markets, mosques, churches, among other public places should install Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras in their premises to help in prompt and accurate detection of crime and criminality in and around the state.

This is definitely a step in the right direction. Indeed, it sends a strong signal to criminals to redirect their energies or seek their fortunes elsewhere.

We commend the state governor for taking this significant step to secure Deltans, particularly in view of the emerging upsurge of criminality today.

This move, no doubt will further enlarge the needed ambience for peace and subsequent fast tracking of security networking, social, political and economic development of the state.

As the Chief Security Officer of Delta State, he has given a credible operational platform for the police and other security agencies in combating crime and criminality in the state. His template symbolizes further manifestation of the commitment to the implementation of the MORE Agenda for the benefit of all Deltans.

It is our firm belief that the government’s directive will be fully adhered to, and urgently too, so as to achieve the desired results.

Accordingly, we call on all stakeholders to key into this modern template of crime fighting.  Similarly, traditional rulers, the mass media, religious and opinion leaders should join hands for its success by drumming support for massive compliance with this innovation in the security architecture of the state.

While it is crystal clear that Delta State is by and large, one of the most peaceful and secured states in the federation as can be gleaned from the frequent volley of visits and hosting of various sports fiestas, including the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG), Deltans and indeed all security conscious Nigerians cannot but appreciate this government policy geared towards consolidating the gains of the state’s positive security profile.

More importantly, crime merchants of today have gone digital with regards to their modus operandi, hence there is the inexorable need to counteract this by going beyond the kinetic approach, but rather emphasize more on the use of modern technology, intelligence gathering and peer review by security agencies.

Indeed, since security is the duty of all citizens, we must all remain vigilant in the quest for a peaceful and crime-free society as being pursued by the Delta State Government.
