Those now know as rice scammers have infilterated Ogwashi-Uku metropolis, our correspondent reports.
Several persons, especially civil servants in the area have so far been duped.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the thieves operate using the ‘Sharp – Sharp’ scheme model by first supplying the first buyers in other to convince others.
Those first persons bought rice from them at a quarter of the price of a 50kg bag of rice as against what is originally sold in the market.
Further investigation showed that the first supplies were enough to convince others, hence, many applied for the rice and made a down payment of N70,000 as against the market price of N110,000 per bag of 50kg.
A fact check indicated that some of the scammed civil servants paid for two bags by depositing twice the amount with the scammers with a promise to supply them the bags of rice at a latter date.
According to sources close to the victims, the victims have been waiting for over one month without any sign of the scammers coming back to supply them the rice they paid for.
While most of them have lost hope, some are thinking of ways they can have the scammers apprehended by Security agents.
