In a move to solidify Delta State’s reputation as Nigeria’s sports powerhouse, the Delta State Sports Commission Board Member representing Delta North, Hon. Mrs. Henrietta Ehiabor, will today commence a grassroots sports development tour across the nine local government councils in her senatorial district.
The tour will kick off today with visits to Oshimili North and Ndokwa West councils, where Hon. Ehiabor will meet with council chairmen to discuss the need for grassroots sports development through education.
The seasoned sports administrator revealed that the initiative aims to transform each council into a breeding ground for world-class talents, ensuring a steady stream of athletes that will continue bring glory to Delta State and the nation.
Highlighting the benefits of the programme, she noted its potential to keep schoolchildren engaged in productive activities. “This exercise will not only develop sports but also encourage students to remain in school, steering them away from less beneficial activities,” she remarked.
A key feature of the programme includes the construction of sports facilities in selected schools within the councils, ensuring its long-term sustainability. Hon. Ehiabor emphasized that this aligns with the MORE agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration, which prioritizes delivering more dividends of democracy to the Deltans.
The collaborative effort between Hon. Ehiabor and the council chairmen is expected to create a legacy of sports excellence and community development in Delta North, reinforcing the state’s leadership in the Nigerian sports scene.
