Stakeholders Call For Improved Funding Of Technical Education

THE rehabilitated and renovated Benin Technical college, by the Obaseki led Administration, has been commissioned with a renew call for improved funding of Technical Education to drive the process of skills acquisition, aimed at promoting self-sufficiency as an Antidote to arresting the high level of unemployment in the country.

Enugu State Governor, Mr Peter Mbah, who performed the commissioning of Benin Technical college, said the only way Nigeria can break away from the vicious circle of poverty and over dependence on the importation of already made goods is to promote Technical Education which the Benin Technical college represents.

He described the project as remarkable, and Education as a transformative power, as the vision and unrelenting quest to improve the lots of the people of Edo State, as the successful completion of the renovation work handled by North China construction company, was a testament of Governor Obaseki to institute lasting legacy for posterity.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Obaseki said the completion and installation of the state of the arts facilities needed to build the skills of youths has helped to address the menace of irregular migration.

Edo State Commissioner of Education, Dr Joan Osa Oviawe, said the reforms entrenched in the Education sector encapsulates infrastructural development, human capacity building, Technological inputs to drive the process of Academic Excellence.

Good Will messages came from the National Board for Technical Education, Chairman, Benin Technical Col­lege Old Students Association, and Board of Trustees, Dr Isacc Omorogieva, National president, Benin Technical college old Students Association, Mr Ikpomwosa Osun­bor and Acting Odionwere of Ugbowo community, Chief Osemwegie Ero,who all applauded Governor Obaseki for injecting a new life into Benin Technical college,50 years after it was founded by Dr Samuel Osaigbovo Ogbemudia.

The contractor that handled the project, Eng Osade­bey Osakue, Managing Director North China construc­tion company, said the execution of the project with quality and durable materials was in line with Global best practices.

The Functioning Director, Learning Development, Edo State Board for Technical and Vocational Education, Mrs Mercy Isibor said the key ambition of promoting Technical and Vocational Education in Edo State is to improve Economic and individual prosperity, and building communities.

Former Governor of Sokoto State Senator Aminu Waziri Tambuwal Deputy Governor Eng Marvelous Omobayo and some civil commissioners attended the ceremony.
