Stop Misleading Deltans, PDP Chieftain Slams APC

The Auditor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okpe Local Government Area, Hon. Ubini has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stop spreading misinformation and inciting Deltans against the government.

This comes in response to a statement credited to the State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Valentine Onojeghwo, on the state’s 33rd anniversary, which Ubini described as misleading and typical of APC’s inability to recognize the achievements of others.

Ubini challenged the APC to provide evidence supporting its claim that the state government borrowed ₦40 billion, reiterating that the State has not squandered any opportunities since its inception 33 years ago.

He expressed satisfaction that, despite their criticism, the APC acknowledged the ongoing construction of three flyover projects in Effurun and Warri as positive steps by the state government.

Addressing the ₦40 billion loan allegations, Ubini explained that the state government only acted as a guarantor to assist the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in securing the funds to pay pensions owed to local government retirees.

Ubini urged the APC to stop spreading alarmist rhetoric, noting that most states and even countries like the United States carry debt, and what matters is how borrowed funds are used. He emphasized that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has not borrowed any funds since assuming office.

He highlighted the numerous achievements the state has witnessed since 1991, including improved infrastructure such as bridges in Bomadi, Olomu, and Omadino, as well as enhanced health and education facilities, timely payment of salaries, and increased employment in the state civil service.

The PDP chieftain also criticized the APC for suggesting that Delta has missed opportunities, describing such claims as “unfair” given the development that the PDP has spearheaded in the state.

Ubini dismissed the APC’s comments about misgovernance under Governor Oborevwori, stating that it is too early to assess his administration and accusing the APC of “blindness and wickedness.”

On the ongoing work on the Asaba-Ughelli Expressway, Ubini reassured that progress is being made and emphasized that governance is a continuous process. He rejected allegations that the PDP uses appointments as political patronage, insisting that Governor Oborevwori has appointed individuals from different political backgrounds, including technocrats, to contribute to the state’s development.

Ubini praised the creation of the new Directorate for Riverine Development, which was established to prioritize the needs of riverine communities, and criticized the APC for failing to recognize the administration’s achievements. He characterized the APC as a party of “failed politicians” interested only in baseless criticism.

According to Ubini, the PDP has successfully managed Delta State’s resources, leading to significant development across the state. He noted that this is why the party continues to win elections through popular support, in contrast to the APC, which he accused of relying on lies and deception, much like they did in 2015 when they gained power at the national level.
