Support Vulnerable Populations Via Health Insurance

The Delta State government has called on affluent Deltans both at home and abroad to embrace the spirit of collective responsibility by supporting indigent and vulnerable individuals through the purchase of health insurance cards.

The Director-General of the Delta State Contributory Health Commission (DSCHC), Dr. Isaac Akpoveta made this plea during the enrollment of beneficiaries into the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative program.

He said that the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme (DSCHS) offers these scheme at a subsidized rate of just 7,000 Naira per person, ensuring access to quality healthcare.

Dr. Akpoveta noted that since its inception eight years ago, these plans and initiatives have enrolled over 2 million residents and facilitated over 7 million healthcare encounters. Also, the current administration has shown robust support for the scheme, contributing billions of Naira, particularly for maternal and child healthcare.

The Director- General added that the (DSCHC) was established to administer a Social Health Insurance Scheme encompassing several plans: the Equity Plan, Formal Plan, Informal Plan, and Private Plan. Additionally, runs several initiatives including the Indigent Enrollee Adoption Initiative, Artisans Enrollee Adoption Initiative, Access to Finance Initiative, and the Tertiary Institutions Social Health Insurance Programme (TISSHIP), which has been successful.

“We will continue to strive to enroll more Deltans and ensure they receive quality health services,” he said.
