three suspected gun runners are currently chilling in detention, having been arrested by men of the Delta State Police Command, for the illegal manufacturing, smuggling and supply of arms to suspected robbers/kidnappers in Warri.
This was disclosed in a press release by the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, who stated that the arrest was initiated by a team led by ASP Julius Robinson, between the hours of 13000hrs to 1935hrs on July 16.
The arrest was enforced, following an intensive intelligence-led investigation by operatives on the Commissioner of Police (CP), Olufemi Abaniwonda’s special assignment based in Ughelli, relating to the earlier recovery of a fabricated AK 47 revolver rifle, recovered on June 8 from one Goodluck Sakutu ‘m’ aged 38 years of Ekpan community, Uvwie LGA, Delta State.
The suspects, Tega Dierunaba ‘m’ aged 44 years old, of Ororokpe Community in Okpe LGA, Delta State; a resident of Enehren area of Warri Town, Chibiuke Cosmas ‘m’ aged 42 years, of Orlu Town in Nkwerre LGA Imo State; a resident of Musheshe Cold Room Industrial Area, Enehren Road Warri, and Sunday Pam ‘m’ 36 years of Von Community in Jos South LGA, Plateau State; a resident of Oka Closed Street, in Enehren Warri Delta State.
Edafe also revealed that Sunday Pam was responsible for the concealing and conveying of arms from Plateau State into Delta, while Chibuike Cosmas, was distributing the supplies, adding that all suspects have confessed to the crime, while they remain in custody of the police and investigations are ongoing.
The CP, however, has urged residents to trust the policing process, provide useful and timely information to the police on suspicious happenings in their area, insisting that crime can be fought at any stage as long as it is reported. CP Abaniwonda assured that the identities of informants will be treated with utmost confidence.
