Teachers’ Welfare: NUT Passes Confidence Vote On Oborevwori

IN a landmark resolution reached at the state-wing Executive Council (SWEC), the Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT), Delta State Wing, has expressed explicit confidence in the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori in tackling all teachers’ welfare in the state.

The meeting was held at Teachers House, Asaba the state capital, providing a veritable platform to critically access the developmental strides of Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in the state as encapsulated in his MORE Agenda.

The resolution reached at the end of the extraordinary State Wing Executive Council meeting was jointly signed by the Chapter Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Delta State Wing Comr. Titus Okotie and the State Secretary Comr. Dan Basime and it read in parts:

“That the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori-led government be called upon to sustain the legacy of the instituted Annual Teacher’s Merit Award in the state. To set in motion for the hosting of the year 2024 edition as part of activities marking the World Teacher’s Day billed for October 5th.

“The Nigeria Union of Teachers shall as usual partner genuinely with the relevant stakeholders in this regard to ensure the success of this year’s edition of the Teachers Merit Award, also, that teachers in the state shall continue to reciprocate this magnanimous gesture of annual merit award through quality service delivery for the educational development of the state.

“That the continued stagnation of University graduates primary school teachers on Salary Grade Level 14 be urgently removed to enable them to enjoy career progression up to Salary Grade Level 17 like their counterparts in other states of the federations.

“Additionally, that the takeover of primary school teachers’ salary payroll system by local government councils be as a matter of urgency return to SUBEB to save primary education from imminent collapse.

“While expressing sincere appreciation to His Excellency for his eligible teachers in the state, the case of teachers omitted during the exercise be urgently looked into in the interest of equity and justice.
