Teaching Of Uvwie Dialect To Commence In Public Schools In Sept—Edjedegba

THE teaching of Uvwie dialect of the Urhobo language will Commence in schools in Uvwie Local Government Area in September 2024.

Member of a committee set up to develop the curriculum for the teaching of the Uvwie dialect in public schools in the area, Chief Abraham Edjedegba, made the disclosure in a media chat with newsmen during the 30th anniversary special graduation/prize giving day ceremony of St. Anastasia Heights Montessori & Secondary School International, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

Edjedegba disclosed that the Ministry of Basic and Primary Education, had approved the teaching of the Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language only in government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area.

He disclosed that the Delta Government had also approved for the teaching of teachers that teach learners of the Uvwie dialect at Uvwie Hall, along Petroleum Training Institute (PTI)Road on Monday 24th July, 2024

Edjedegba, who appreciated and commended the Uvwie monarch, HRM Dr. Emmanuel Sideso, Abe 1, for his support for the teaching and learning of Uvwie dialect in Uvwie Local Government, also disclosed that the 10th stage of the programme was the commencement of the teaching of Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language in all government schools in Uvwie Local Government Area in September 2024.

He expressed optimism that the programme would reduce the difficulties in teaching and learning of the Uvwie dialect of Urhobo language and also prevent the language from going into extinction.
