TENSION is escalating in the Agbarha community, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, as two rival cult groups, Maphite, and Vikings, clash over alleged fraudulent activities.
The internal crisis stems from a dispute over a “pick-up” issue, where one group member failed to remit payment to the other.
This incident comes on the heels of a recent deadly clash between Aye and Bagger confraternities in Ughelli and Ogor communities, resulting in five fatalities.
In that incident, five suspects were arrested, and security agents recovered three cut-to-size guns, live cartridges, phones, battle axes, and other items.
A source, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed that the trouble began when a Vikings member failed to remit payment for a “pick-up” done for a Maphite member, leading to a violent confrontation.
While the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, was unavailable for comment, a senior security source confirmed the incident.
The source claimeda serious rift between Maphite and Vikings in the Agbarha area and Uduere community but assured that leaders of various groups are working to resolve the issue.
