THE Pointer Newspaper, a flagship publication of the Delta Printing and Publishing Corporation (DPPC), is gearing up to celebrate its 30th anniversary this October.
The event promises to honour key figures and stakeholders who have contributed to the newspaper’s success and its role in upholding democracy, truth, and unity in the state and beyond.
Speaking ahead of the celebration, the Acting General Manager of DPPC, Mr. Godfrey Ubaka, highlighted the importance of the milestone.
“In October 1994, the Delta State Government saw the need to have a state newspaper and established The Pointer Newspaper. For thirty years now, the paper has contributed to information dissemination in Delta State and beyond.
“Therefore, this event will celebrate three decades of The Pointer’s consistency to her mission statements, and will acknowledge the efforts of key stakeholders who have been instrumental in the success of the newspaper.”
Ubaka noted that the anniversary will reflect on contributions made during various administrations, from the military regime of Air Commodore Ibrahim Kephas to the current government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
“We are rolling out the drums to celebrate key stakeholders who have played a role in the success of the organisation including, stakeholders, commissioners of information, traditional rulers, and clients who have advertised with the paper, and our readers.
“The celebration will especially recognize the tireless efforts of past and present management staff, and all who have contributed to the sustenance of the paper till date,” he said.
He further noted that as part of the event, radio jingles will be aired, inviting the general public to join in celebrating The Pointer Newspaper’s three decades of service.
The anniversary is expected to draw a wide audience of dignitaries, media professionals, and the general public, as they come together to honour The Pointer Newspaper’s legacy of excellence and continued relevance in the evolving media landscape.
