THE Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), The Pointer Chapel, has wrapped up the year with a thanksgiving service at Bible Base Miracle Assembly, Asaba, Delta State capital.
The event brought together the chapel’s members and well-wishers, providing an opportunity to reflect on the year’s successes while seeking divine guidance for the year ahead.
The sermon, delivered by Pastor Jerry Nwachukwu, centered on the theme “New Beginning” and was drawn from 1 Samuel 16:11. Pastor Nwachukwu used the story of David, who was overlooked by his family, yet chosen by God as King of Israel, which he used to emphasise hope and divine remembrance.
The pastor also called for peace in the country, urging the government to ensure the safety and protection of all residents. He prayed that a modern printing press and other equipment will become a reality at The Pointer in the forseeable future. Pastor Nwachukwu stressed the importance of unity within the chapel and entire staff of The Pointer, highlighting this as a critical step toward achieving progress.
On the significance of the thanksgiving, the Chairperson of NUJ The Pointer Chapel, Comrade Rosemary Nwaebuni, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for His faithfulness throughout the year. She also commended the chapel’s members for their dedication and contributions to the activities marking the union’s 2024 year’s end celebrations. The events, which commenced last Friday, included donations to widows, orphanages, and other charitable causes.
“This Thanksgiving service is a moment for us to acknowledge God’s grace in our lives, the Union, and our profession. As we enter a new year, I encourage every member to remain steadfast, uphold ethical journalism, and work together for the collective growth of the Union and The Pointer,” she said.
The event concluded with prayers for the Union, the state, and the country.
