@TIGA 2024, JCI Advocates Peace Among South-South Youths

BY CHIKA KWAMBA

The Junior Chamber International (JCI) has again advocated the promotion of peace among youths in the South-South region with the second edition of Tony Ikomoni Games (TIGA) 2024 in Asaba.

The games held at Squash Club Leisure Center, Asaba, saw members of the club from various states, students and government officials including; the Head of Service (HoS) Reginald Bayoko, represented by Peter Okolie, past chairman, JCI Nigeria and retired PS, Cornelius Semiteje, and others.

Speaking to The Pointer, the President of JCI Asaba, Stella Lawerence underscored the significance of the event, “TIGA is a platform for youths to connect, reconnect, have fun, network and compete healthily in different games and sports activities.

“I urge all youths to strive for development and be useful to society. Also, one of the major challenges we are facing is sponsorship and availability of youths to showcase their skills, and financial commitment which is far from what we stand for”, Lawrence asserted.

Earlier, the National President of JCI, Sandra Efemuaye reiterated the aim of the event.

“We all know that games and sports unite and bring people together just like soccer and promote peace. In the same vein, JCI is an association that promotes peace and unity. The Tony Ikomoni Games Asaba (TIGA) is aimed at uniting local organisations across south-south south-east and different states of JCI Nigeria.

“Commemorating the TIGA 2024  are JCI members from Warri, Garden City Portharcourt, Imolite Owerri, University of Benin (Uniben), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Unizik) Benin Metro and Edo Browe”, Efemuaye said.

The high point of the TIGA event was a mix of sports and games competition among members of JCI which included football, ludo, Ayo games, scrambles, relay race, sack race, egg race, skipping, Chess, and tug of war. Other sideline activities include; medical checks, BP checks, weight checks, foot massages and fitness tips.
