BORN into the family of late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Okotie of Opia descendants, Uku Street, Unukpo Quarters, Orogun on July 12, 1964, Titus Okotie had his early Education at Ansarudeen Primary School, Apomu, Osun State, before proceeding to Anglican Grammar School, Gbongan, Osun State for his Secondary Education.
Titus Okotie attended the University of Lagos (Unilag), Akoka, Lagos, for his Tertiary Education and graduated with a Bsc.(Ed.)in Physics, in 1988. He then embarked on the mandatory National Youth Service (NYSC), where he was posted to Ikpee secondary school, Ikpee, Offa in Kwara state, for his primary assignment in 1989.
Armed with his Bachelor’s Degree in Physics Education and his NYSC Certificate, the young and vibrant Titus Okotie returned to his home community in Delta State, where he started his adult Career journey as a teacher and subsequently rose to become the Principal of Uwheru Grammar School, Uwheru, Ughelli North LGA.
His penchant and passion for activism, honed in the robust and exciting days of student unionism, during his Tertiary Education years at the bubbling activists cauldron of Unilag came to fore, when he contested for and won a resounding victory to emerge as the two -time Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Delta State wing , in 2017, and the position of Treasurer ,Nigeria Labour Congress, Delta State Chapter till present. Over the years, Comrade Titus Okotie has upgraded himself and embarked on notable Professional Development programmes and attended various labour-related capacity-building courses across the globe in countries like; Dubai (2017); Geneva(2018), Switzerland (2018); London, Great Britain (2019); Istanbul, Turkey (2022), Namibia (2022) and South Africa (2023), .Turkey(2024) amongst others.
Titus Okotie has also distinguished himself with some outstanding Personality Traits both as a professional and unionist. He is a dedicated educator and leader; he has demonstrated over the years that he is very Passionate about labour rights and unionism; he is Committed to community development; Enthusiastic about sports and outdoor activities; Values family and relationships and exhibits a post-modern trait as a Globally conscious individual who is open to learning. Comrade Okotie’s Strengths have revealed that he has Strong leadership skills; he is Excellent in communication and interpersonal skills; he’s well known for his Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities; possesses the admirable Ability to inspire and motivate others and has exhibited great Adaptability and resilience.
His Goals include his desire to Continue to advocate for educators’ rights and welfare; Enhance educational standards in Nigeria; Expand farming and agricultural ventures, as well as Foster stronger community relationships.
As for Recommendations going forward, he would dearly love and desire to Collaborate with educational institutions to develop innovative programs; Engage in policy-making to address labour and educational challenges; Mentor aspiring educators and union leaders, as well as Explore opportunities for agricultural development and sustainability.
Comrade Titus Omowumi Okotie enjoys several hobbies which include Football and Table Tennis. He also has a passion for Farming.
He is a devout Christian, solid family man, who is happily married with beautiful and amazing children.
