The Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, has expressed confidence in the successful accreditation of the Orerokpe campus of Southern Delta University, Ozoro, by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Prof. Tonukari made this assertion during a courtesy visit to the Orodje of Okpe, His Royal Majesty, Major General Mujakperuo Agho, Orhue I, where he briefed the monarch on the institution’s progress and discussed potential collaborations to enhance education in Okpe Kingdom.
He stated that the new campus is more than prepared for the accreditation exercise, highlighting its world-class infrastructure, which he described as superior to those of many other new universities. He expressed confidence that the university would meet and exceed NUC requirements.
“The team from the National Universities Commission will soon visit for the accreditation exercise, and I can assure everyone that we will pass with flying colours. No other new campus the NUC has assessed is as ready as this one. The quality of infrastructure, particularly the faculty buildings, is second to none,” he said.
Prof. Tonukari further disclosed that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Provost of the new campus is expected to assume office in July, with academic activities set to commence by September.
He also noted that the NUC recently approved the expansion of the university’s academic offerings from eight to 19 programmes within a single faculty, significantly increasing the institution’s capacity to provide educational opportunities for Delta State students.
In response, the Orodje of Okpe commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his commitment to the development of Okpe Kingdom. He acknowledged the positive impact that Southern Delta University would have on the local community and expressed hope for continued government support in areas such as funding and resource allocation.
