Touts Deface Koka Flyover With Excreta

BY CHIJIOKE OYE

Koka Flyover in Asaba, Delta State Capital, has been constantly defaced by suspected touts who take shelter under the bridge and loiter around the environment, The Pointer has learned.

Sources who spoke to our correspondent plying the flyover axis yesterday said that as soon as the rain begins, all the infrastructure and its environs become polluted with excreta and produce an unpleasant odour.

While pleading anonymity, the source said that the perpetrators were mainly youths from the northern part of the country who took abode under the bridge, adding that they even defecated there.

The source alleged that it is not only open defecation, the flyover had become a haven for criminal hideouts and a dumpsite, adding that the concerned authorities are not doing enough to curtail the ugly development.

Another respondent, Mr Joshua Nwabuokei said plying the area at night has become risky as criminals hang out in tricycles robbing people of their phones and other possessions.

Nwabuokei called on the Police to intensify efforts to address the menace, especially the open defecation and criminal activities going on there, adding that proper security checks should be on daily routine.

He also called the attention of the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Health and the Oshimili South Local Government to expedite action in addressing the menace.
