DELTA State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Onoriode Agofure has charged motorists to attend to broken down vehicles promptly so as not to cause disruption on the roads.
He gave the charge following the increasing complaints of such insidious activities by motorists and the attendant hazard broken down and abandoned vehicles could cause in areas where they are unattended to.
He disclosed that Utopia Global Enterprise is the only recognized authority, approved by the government for the removal of broken down, abandoned and vehicles parked in all unauthorized areas, which according to him, was to ensure safety on the roads across the state.
Agofure added that any group or individuals not commissioned by the ministry in this regard should steer clear of such activities.
Motorists are to ensure that broken down vehicles are removed timely from road sides, or every unsafe area; even unauthorized parking of vehicles in busy junctions, market places as well as abandoned vehicles should be attended to promptly,” he said.
The commissioner added that even trucks were not exempted, stressing that vehicles left unattended to could be a death trap to other road users and further stated that any vehicle towed by the Utopia Global Enterprise would be taken to a dump site, for financial sanction while such owner would be made to pay for it.
Accordingly, he said owners of defaulted vehicles could face prosecution in law court if adequate care was not taken by them.
