The newly sworn-in councillors of Ughelli South Local Government have constituted the Legislative Assembly, beginning with the emergence of principal officers to carry their constitutional mandate.
Those elected are Mary Majemite as Leader and Andrew Eti as Deputy Leader. Others are Bright Ovayero as Majority Leader, Stephen Sisaye as Deputy Majority Leader, Ferere Umudi as Chief Whip, and William Ovedje as Deputy Whip.
The council’s 8th legislative assembly was constituted sequel to a proclamation by the Local Government Chairman, Dr Lucky Avweromre on the floor of the legislative chamber.
After administering the oath of office and allegiance to the leader, and his deputy the clerk of the house, Mr. Julius Ogudo decorated the duo with the paraphernalia of their offices before handing the continuation of the house proceedings to the leader for onward legislative business.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, Dr Lucky Avweromre congratulated the newly-elected principal officers of the 8th Ughelli South Legislative Assembly.
In the chairman’s charge, he admonished them to be proactive in their legislative functions, adding that they cannot afford to fail in the delivery of the mandate given to them by the electorate.
While urging the councillors further, the chairman said, “The pieces of your legislative packages should, in no doubt, reflect what the beauty of the new Ughelli South represents”
Responding, the leader of the house assured the chairman of their readiness to partner with the executive arm to positively impact the lives of the electorate by generating people-oriented bills.
