The community crises that have enveloped the Ugolo community of Okpe Local Government Area, Delta State have nothing to do with plans or attempts to take over the community leadership.
One of the community leaders, Mr Edafe Onokpite made this statement while reacting to a Facebook post with his picture and that of others which accused them of plans to take over the leadership of the Ugolo community whereas the main issues concerned the encroachment of the Onokpite family land.
Onokpite, who described the Facebook post as a mere fallacy, a blatant lie, challenged those accusing them of a coup to topple the leadership of the Ugolo community to come up with the true report instead of this fabricated story.
He said the Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor, Mr Paul Iboyitete, who was being dragged into the land boundary issue only came in to settle both parties but expressed surprise that his name was mentioned in the Facebook post.
Speaking on the issue, Mr Edafe Onokpite said, “My attention was brought to a Facebook post that l have been accused of plans to take over the leadership of Ugolo community with other persons and that our pictures were also displayed, hence I am making this press briefing to let the whole world know that what we have in Ugolo is a land boundary issue.
“Some years ago we had land boundary issues between the Onokpite family and
Adeode family, but surprisingly, the Adeode family now encroached into the Onokpite family land that has been shared by Mr John Osimi, Chief Chadaff Emomor, Mr Ashere Cyril, Chief Okeh Mayor, late Chief Tenajera and others, with certified survey plan and number prepared at Orerokpe Federal High Court.
‘’We were surprised when they brought up issues about plans to take over the government of Ugolo, diverting peoples’ minds from the issue of the land which we have reported to community and political leaders.
‘’Hence, we are calling on Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, Commissioner of Police, Department of State Security (DSS) and other security agents to look into the root cause.”
