Following the refusal of students of University of Benin (UNIBEN), to shift grounds on their demands for 24 hours supply of electricity and more considered unrealistic by the institution, the Senate of University has shut down academic activities indefinitely.
This was made known in a statement signed by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire.
According to the statement, students are to vacate the hostels immediately while all the relevant units of the university are to take note and comply.
The statement further stated that non-teaching staff and staff on essential duties are not affected by the shutdown of the university.
It will be recalled that UNIBEN students embarked on a protest on Wednesday, 3rd of July to demand from the university management to urgently restore public electricity to the campus and water supply to students residing in the University hostels.
