THE foremost Urhobo socio-political association, the Urhobo Peoples Integrity Organization (UPIO), has appealed for the urgent resettlement of the Okuama people in Ughelli South Local Government Area.
This appeal was made in a press briefing by the National Assistant Secretary of UPIO, Lord Ebodor, shortly after the group’s recent monthly meeting held at the Ekpan residence of its National President, Dr. Olorogun Ebenezer Okorodudu, in Uvwie Local Government Area.
In the briefing, the group expressed full support for the call to teach the Urhobo language in Warri South Local Government Area. Lawyer and Chief of the Agbarha Warri Kingdom, Lord Ebodor, commended the Association of Urhobo Traditional Rulers, known as Ukoko R’ Ivie Urhobo, and the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) for their efforts to make the teaching of the Urhobo language a reality in all Urhobo areas of Delta State. He called on patriotic Urhobos in positions of power, corporate organizations, and friends of the Urhobo people to support this noble cause.
Ebodor emphasized that the Urhobo people are a majority in size and population in Warri South Local Government Area, and he highlighted the importance of language in promoting cultural heritage. He also encouraged Urhobos to take pride in communicating in their language, particularly at public functions, as done by other ethnic groups like the Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa.
The National Assistant Secretary of UPIO also expressed condolences on behalf of the association to the Ughievwen Kingdom, the Urhobo Nation, and Delta State over the death of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Professor Amos Utuama (SAN), whom he described as a great patron of the Urhobo Nation and a political icon.
