A native of Utchi in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, Ogbuefi Ifeanyi Chukwuemeke has been honoured with an award for outstanding services to his community. He was recognised by the Apex Association of Anioma Indigenes (AAAI) for promoting education and other services in his community.
Among his key projects is the renovation of Utchi Mixed Secondary School, described as a long-standing project in need of support.
Speaking to The Pointer after receiving the award at the South-South/South-East Culture, Heritage, Tourism, and Business Summit Extravaganza 2024, organised by the AAAI, Ogbuefi Chukwuemeke expressed gratitude to the organizers, highlighting the significance of giving back to one’s community.
According to the UK-based philantropist, “education is so dear to my heart, reflected in my commitment to education and youth empowerment in Utchi and other communities.”
Ogbuefi Chukwuemeke noted that beyond infrastructure, he has launched scholarship programmes aimed at fostering educational opportunities for young people in Utchi. These initiatives underscores my belief that investing in education is crucial for community advancement”, he said.
“If God has inspired you to serve your people, he will provide the resources and strength of character needed to fulfil the mandate and initiatives you feel called to execute for your community”, he said.
Chukwuemeke revealed that he had played a pivotal role in improving local infrastructure, stressing that he ensured that Utchi roads were graded, and nearly 34 solar lights installed across his community. He also facilitated the renovation of the local health center, ensuring better access to medical care for residents.
Chukwuemeke said his efforts has extended beyond education, adding that among his early successes was the establishment of the Utchi Unity Cup, a sports initiative designed to unite the youths from the community’s seven clans.
“One of the first thing I did was to bring the youths together through the Utchi Peace Cup, which they embraced and was successfully held in the community. It not only promoted harmony, but also gained the backing of the local government chairman. He said that some schools are currently being renovated by the Utchi Diaspora Group but further support was essential to elevate it to world-class standard, hence he appealed for government’s assistance.
