THE Executive Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, Hon. Festus Ashima has presented a total supplementary budget estimate of Three billion, seven hundred and eighteen million, one hundred and forty thousand, two hundred and seventy-eight naira, thirty-three Kobo (N3,718,140,278.33) to the Legislative arm of the local government for consideration and passage into law.
The draft appropriation bill which contains the expenditure estimate of capital and recurrent expenditure is intended to fast track the pace of infrastructural development in the local government. The Chairman said.
Presenting the supplementary budget estimate before the house, the chairman said, the budget was for the purpose of completing all on-going projects begun by his administration as well as the greater need to commence new ones across the council area.
This, he said, will complement the M.O.R.E Agenda of the state governor, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori.
He disclosed that there are projects that desire priority in the budget estimate, which include environmental health and sanitation which by extension has to do with desilting of gutters, evacuation of drains and canals, etcetera.
The 2024 supplementary budget estimate, the chairman said, is going to be X-raying 2025-26 as medium term expenditure frame -work (IPAS Compliment) and is broken into Capital & Recurrent expenditure estimates.
According to him, the total supplementary capital expenditure estimate is put at three billion, three hundred and twenty-seven million naira (N3,327,000,000.00) which represents 89.48% of the total estimate while. The Total supplementary recurrent expenditure estimate is put at three hundred and ninety-one million, one hundred and forty thousand, two hundred and seventy-eight naira, thirty-three kobo (N391,140,278.33), which represents 10.51% of the total supplementary estimate.
The chairman, who later presented twenty-one copies of the supplementary budget estimate to the Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Kanu Duakpemi Kunu, asked the lawmakers to expedite the passage of the budget to enable the government deliver on its mandate to the good people of the local government area.
While receiving the draft supplementary budget estimate from the Council Chairman, the leader of the House, Rt. Hon. Duakpemi, thanked him for the cordial relationship which he has established with the house and which has got both arms of government going without itches since their inauguration and asked for its sustenance.
He pledged the cooperation of the hallowed chamber with the Executive in ensuring timely passage of the budget as, according to him,” the success of the Executive is our success and so, we would do our best possible to ensure speedy passage of this budget”, he added.
