THE Women in Tech Summit has recently empowered female corps members by bringing together tech professionals, enthusiasts, and participants to celebrate women’s achievements in technology and explore avenues for innovation and growth.
Themed “Empowering Women in Africa Through Digital Transformation: Fostering Innovation Through Diversity,” the summit was spearheaded by Miss Cynthia Orife, founder of Coriftech Solutions Ltd. Since its inaugural event in 2021 with just 30 attendees, the summit has grown to attract over 500 participants this year.
In her opening remarks, Miss Orife outlined the summit’s mission to equip women with the tools and knowledge to develop impactful digital solutions. She highlighted the need for a supportive community to help women succeed in the tech industry.
Delivering the keynote address titled “Diversity as the Catalyst for Innovation,” Miss Onome Akwara emphasised the role of inclusion in driving technological advancement. She encouraged attendees to take risks and embrace technology to expand their ventures, stating, “Everything is possible when we embrace inclusion.”
Another keynote speaker, Miss Nchegem Hajia, addressed the topic “Driving Employability Through Digital Literacy,” focusing on the importance of acquiring essential skills like data analysis to enhance employability and make meaningful contributions to society.
Practical insights were offered by Mr. Bruce Lucas during his session, “Steps & Tools: A Practical Guideline to Digital Transformation.” Lucas underscored the value of purpose, resilience, and determination in leveraging technology for business success.
Mr. Emeka Adibeli’s session, “Tech for Good: Using Digital Solutions to Drive Social Impact and Community Development,” encouraged participants to create innovative, community-driven solutions using available resources to tackle local challenges.
A standout moment was Miss Irene Mudiaga’s session on “The Nigeria Startup Act.” She explained how tech entrepreneurs could access funding opportunities by registering their businesses as limited liability companies through the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC).
The event also featured a grant competition, with five participants receiving ₦100,000 each, three winning ₦50,000, and one awarded a laptop to support her tech journey.
Reflecting on the summit’s success, Miss Orife remarked, “This event showcases the remarkable potential of women in Africa to lead digital transformation. Together, we are building a community that is redefining the tech narrative.”
