Worker Found Dead At Home After Missing Work In Delta

BY PATRICK MGBODO
The brutal murder of a young woman identified as Lucy in Asaba, the Delta State capital, has sparked calls for enhanced security measures by the police and other relevant agencies to address the growing threat of violent crime.

In a Facebook post, activist Harrison Gwamnishu revealed that Lucy was found dead in her apartment around the Asaba International Airport axis, adding that her lifeless body was discovered by a colleague sent by her employers to check on her after she failed to report to work since January 5, 2025.

According to Gwamnishu, ‘’They started looking for her (Lucy) on January 5 2025. They called her number but it was not connecting so they sent someone to go to her house and find out why she had not been coming to work.

‘’When the person got there (Lucy’s house), the door was locked and so he checked through the window. What they saw was Lucy’s lifeless and naked body on the floor with blood all over the place. They reported back to the office and then proceeded to make a formal report to the police.

‘’Upon investigation, it was discovered that there were marks on her body, a knife cut on her finger and her hair all over the floor which indicated that she must have struggled with her killer. Nobody knows who killed Lucy’’ Gwamnishu said.

He further expressed confidence in the police’s ability to conduct a thorough investigation and bring Lucy’s killers to justice, even as he also emphasized the profound devastation felt by the victim’s family over the tragic incident.

Gwamnishu used the opportunity to urge residents to promptly report any threats to the appropriate authorities, emphasizing that such threats should never be taken lightly. He warned that unreported threats could easily be carried out, making it harder to identify and prosecute offenders.

‘’If anybody threatens your life, please report it to the police or other law enforcement agencies. Do not take threats lightly, take them seriously. Report threats because when you do so and the person is aware, he/she may not be able to carry out the threat’’ he said.
Reacting to the sad incident, social media users commended Lucy’s employers for their thoughtfulness in checking up on her after she failed to report to work, even as they questioned the whereabouts of her neighbours.

They frowned at the growing insecurity in the country, calling on the police and other security agencies to up their game in the protection of lives and property in the country.
