Workers Rally Behind CMD, Asaba Specialist Hospital

Workers at the Asaba Specialist Hospital have shown solidarity with the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Peace Ighosewe, condemning a recent malicious media campaign aimed at tarnishing her professional reputation.

The hospital workers, cutting across several cadres came together in a show of support for the Chief Medical Director, noting that the allegations leveled against Dr. Ighosewe are baseless and a clear attempt at discrediting her exceptional leadership and the remarkable progress the hospital has made under her administration.

The workers, consisting of medical and non-medical staff, expressed unwavering confidence in her ability to continue to lead the hospital towards achieving its goals, while they praised her commitment to delivering quality healthcare services to the public.

The President, Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), Asaba Specialist Hospital, Dr. Samuel Okowa, lauded the CMD’s tireless dedication to the institution’s growth and excellence, particularly her commitment to staff welfare and patient care

This, he said, had led to notable improvements in the work environment, healthcare services, and staff training.

Dr. Okowa pointed out that under Dr. Ighosewe’s leadership, the hospital has,  “witnessed significant advancements in facilities, residency training programmes and patient outcomes.”

“We appreciate your unwavering dedication to the growth and excellence of ASH. Your commitment to the welfare of doctors and all hospital staff, alongside your efforts to enhance patient care, has not gone unnoticed.

“Under your leadership, we have witnessed significant improvements in key areas, including a conducive work environment for healthcare professionals and quality health care services, training and re-training of health workers and the reduction of patient waiting times, commencement of residency training in various departments.

“Additionally, your focus on equipping the hospital with modern facilities has greatly improved service delivery and patient outcomes,” he added.

Consultant Family Physician and Head Department of Family Medicine, Dr. Dominic Uwadia, noted that the department has experienced tremendous growth under her leadership, “acquiring her first full accreditation to train family physicians from the West African College of Physicians just after two years of inception.”

Dr. Uwadia said this was followed by another full accreditation by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, saying “although there has been some social media campaign aimed at tarnishing her image, but I dare say that these are the handy work of miscreants who do not want the good of the hospital and the state in general.”

Similarly, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecology and Head Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Odidi Olarenwaju said a new gynaecology ward, gynaecology emergency unit was opened under Dr. Ighosewe’s leadership, ensuring prompt and efficient management of patients.

“The CMD has ensured the continued delivery of free maternal care programme of the Delta State Government. Her administration has, also, ensured accreditation of the department by the National Postgraduate/Medical College of Nigeria for training of residents in Obstetrics and Gynaecology,” Dr. Olarenwaju stated.

Also speaking, Dr. Agholor Chucks who is a Consultant Radiologist, said the Radiology Department has flourished under the CMD’s visionary leadership as it has become one of the select few departments in the state to receive accreditation from both the West African College and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria, enabling it to provide residency training programmes.

In their separate remarks, the Chairman, Association of Hospital and Administrative Pharmacists of Nigeria, Asaba Specialist Hospital (AHAPN ASH), Pharmacist Acheka Emmanuel; Director, Nursing Services, Mrs. Usenu Henrietta; Administrative Officer, Mrs. Bridget, commended Ighosewe’s transparent and accountable administration, noting that she has fostered an environment of trust, cooperation and professional growth.

They praised her exceptional leadership, which has been a source of motivation for healthcare professionals within the institution.

According to them, Dr. Ighosewe’s comprehensive grasp of the organization’s inner workings, encompassing administrative, financial, and technical facets, has been particularly noteworthy.

In the same token, junior staff of the health facility including Head of cleaners, Ruth Nwulu; Ogbolu Martins, porter and Inalu Mitral, a gardener described the CMD as a compassionate mother who has brought warmth and kindness to the hospital environment.

According to them, her exceptional leadership style has created a sense of belonging among all staff members, regardless of their position or role.

They applauded her for being approachable, empathetic, and genuinely concerned about the welfare of every individual working at the hospital.

“In my department, everybody talks good about her. She has been very good to all staff. She doesn’t have any negative record. I have not heard any complaint about her”, Mitral said.
