- SERAP Sues Tinubu Over Hike In Fuel Price
The leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Primate Elijah Ayodele, has warned the government of President Bola Tinubu of renewed hardship that would see the prices of food commodities soar higher in the country.
In a statement signed by his media aide, yesterday, Osho Oluwatosin, Primate Ayodele made it known that except the government does the needful and provides immediate solution to the current crisis in the country, the hardship situation would worsen and put the country into chaos.
He noted that the price of rice per bag would increase to N120,000, beans to cost N200,000, a crate of egg to be more than N7,000, and that there will be sharp increase in the prices of other commodities
‘’Except the government does what is needed, there will still be more economic hardship in the country. The government needs to wake up from its slumber, we have much more important things to handle that what the government is currently doing.’’
‘’In the coming days, if the government doesn’t do what is needed, I see a bag of rice being sold for N120,000, beans would cost N200,000, a loaf of bread will cost N5,000, Bottle water will be N400, biscuit will cost N500 per one, even groundnut will cost N200, a small tuber of yam will be sold for N7,000, Crate of egg will exceed N7,000.’’
The prophet also made it known that the budget for the country will not be enough due to the economic troubles that will occur. He also warned that unless the government begins to work, there will be too much debt that will affect Nigeria’s international status.
‘’ I don’t see the budget of Nigeria becoming sufficient despite the additions, the government will still have to borrow more money to augment it and it still won’t be enough. It may get to a point where yearly budget will not work in Nigeria, it would probably be quarterly or twice in a year because of economic problems.’’

Meanwhile, the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has sued President Bola Tinubu, alleging his government’s “failure to reverse the increase in the pump price of petrol.”
Disclosing this in a statement, yesterday, SERAP Deputy Director, Kolawole Oluwadare, said the lawsuit was filed by SERAP against the President’s failure to probe the allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL)
Joined in the suit as Respondents are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the NNPCL.
The suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1361/2024 was filed at the Federal High Court, Abuja.
SERAP wants the court “to compel President Tinubu to direct the NNPCL to reverse the unjust, illegal, unconstitutional and unreasonable increase in the price of petrol from N845 per litre to N600 per litre.”
It also asked the court “to compel President Tinubu to direct Mr. Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and appropriate anti-corruption agencies to probe the allegations of corruption and mismanagement in the NNPC.
The group seeks an order “to compel President Tinubu to direct Fagbemi and appropriate anticorruption agencies to prosecute anyone suspected to be responsible for the alleged corruption and mismanagement in the NNPCL. “The increase in petrol price is causing immense hardship to those less well-off. As the economic situation in Nigeria deteriorates, the increase is pushing people further into poverty.
“Holding the NNPC to account for alleged corruption and mismanagement in the oil sector would serve legitimate public interests.
