THE Rector of Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, Prof. Emmanuel Achuenu has been honoured with the Niger Delta Youth Council Merit Award for his commitment to infrastructural development, innovation and good working relationship with management.
Presenting the award at the institution’s permanent site, the leader of the delegation, Comrade Ufuoma Victor Erharhine said the council (the umbrella body of youths in the nine oil-bearing states) decided to honour Achuenu “because within three years of assumption of office, he has demonstrated high leadership qualities, especially the commitment to massive infrastructural development.
This, he said, was in line with the council’s resolve to present awards to individuals who have distinguished themselves in respective endeavours.
He said, “the things you have done you might not know the impacts today, but we pray whoever will take over from you should sustain the standard that you have set and do more.”
Erharhine commended the management, and staff of the polytechnic for their cooperation and support without which the Rector would not have achieved the much he has done in the institution.
He intimated that the national leadership of the Niger Delta Youth Council, the umbrella body of the youths of the nine oil-bearing states that constitute the Niger Delta deemed it fit to promote leadership excellence.
In his acceptance remarks, Prof. Achuenu explained that most of the success stories couldn’t have been possible without the cooperation of the management, staff and students, saying that in an environment where there is rancour, not much could be achieved.
The Rector commended the group for going the extra mile to recognize the contribution of the management in the running of the institution, noting that the award is for the entire institution.
Earlier, Achuenu listed the completion of 325 capacity building lecture halls, seamless solar power supply, illumination of the institution, training, and workshops and others as some of his achievements in three years.
